Career- Aligned Values

Stay in your lane..with your values !

Value– the core of who you are and what you believe in.

The most profitable and successful companies start with a well- defined value and mission statement to help guide them with growth and success. Well defined values and mission statements create a company’s culture and set the tempo among many things. Think about all the “fun” cultures that entices millions of people every year. There is huge power and ROI in setting and identifying values!

I mean really think about it though. You as person are  an independently held company that is going through constant growth and change. Who you are as a person is highly defined and guided by your values. The activities you engage in, the friends you interact with, the products you support or not support, your political views, your religion…etc. these external factors  both shape you and play a big role in how you lead your life on the daily basis.  While your core values stay consistent for the most part, some values transform with changes in your personal growth (internal needs and desires) as well changes in your environmental circumstances.

So here is what I want to ask you:

How often do you think about your values when it comes to the career path you engage in?

Sure, there are difficult times where you must absolutely do what you can to survive and pay the bills. I have worked  some jobs where I didn’t ’t so much appreciate neither the  people or the of the company but I had to survive and take care of myself because…desperate times call for desperate actions. I remember how empty I felt inside….like all the light and flowers in me were dying down and I felt mentally paralyzed from making any decisions..especially the ones that could bring my light back to life.  I did what I had to pass the difficult time. Pay my dues. Learn my lessons and eventually graduate from it.

But think about the time where you are in the position to take the leap from one position to the next…what is the role of your values in giving you guidance with the transition? Do you even think about your values when you are contemplation a career change?

While coaching one of my clients that’s exactly what we did. We drilled into the personal values. Every conversation went back to “How does this connect with your values? “. At first its rather challenging because our brain isn’t really trained to pause, think, and constantly connect..we operate on auto pilot but practice and perseverance pays off. Going back to my client….. with every passing week and every session we got closer and closer. Every session and every attempt of getting closer to the personal values provided tremendous amount of clarity and as the client referred to it “feeling empowered to make a decision in the right direction .”

If values are the building blocks of our identify..why wouldn’t want to align our decisions with them? After all we rely heavily on our values when we pick a life partner. Our career is the partner we spend majority of our time with. Picking the career that aligns with our value will make us a lot happier  and less stressed so we could enjoy life with our life partner.

I truly believe that each one of us can feel empowered to make a decision in the right direction. We just have to make the conscious effort to connect with our values and be guided by them.

You deserve a happy career.

xoxo
